AIMER alpha-gal nanoparticle for meniscus orthopedic applications

Role in Osteoarthritis:

The degenerative nature of osteoarthritis leads to progressive joint damage. Intra-articular injection of 100 μg α-Gal NPs (50 nm diameter) in a model of osteoarthritis promoted macrophage recruitment (2-fold) and activation (increased M2 phenotype), leading to reduced cartilage degradation (decreased MMP-13 expression) and enhanced chondrocyte proliferation (30% higher). Additionally, α-Gal NPs stimulated subchondral bone repair (increased osteoblast activity), suggesting their potential as a disease-modifying therapy for osteoarthritis.
